As for Me and My House
“But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
DECLARE BOLD FAITH
When I was in elementary school, Joshua 24:15 was scribed on a small brass plaque my mom mounted to our front door. Going in and out numerous times a day, I would see that plaque. More often than not, I would read it and recite it as I walked in. I never really thought much about it at the time, but thinking back, I see where this was more than a decoration. It was a declaration! My mom was publicly declaring that we would be a household of faith. And we were. Not just because the plaque said we were, but because my mom followed through with the call to live by faith and nurture strong, unwavering faith in my brother and me.
Growing up, my mom was the spiritual leader of our single-parent home. God multiplied her faith in His daily provisions of our basic needs. If we needed money to pay a bill, the exact amount would show up in some creatively amazing way. Like, finding $110 on a Kroger parking lot…out in the open…where people passed by. Still, no one seemed to notice but my brother. We turned it into the office for the “rightful owner” to claim. A week later, Kroger called us to pick up the money — it was ours. Crazy, right? But that’s how God worked in our lives, and my mom made sure my brother and I knew these provisions were from God. Her faith and dependence on God provided a solid foundation for me to anchor.
How do your children know you are a household of faith?
